What Are the Best Gifts for Women – After Forty

As the saying goes, “It’s not the gift, but the thought that counts”. Well, this is especially true for women after forty. If you’re buying her a gift, make sure you put some thought into it. These women can’t be fooled! They really want to know you were thinking of them when purchasing the gift. It should be something nice, so that they can flaunt it, and most of all…come from the heart. What she really wants is to know that she is loved and appreciated. That’s all. This may sound complicated, but trust me, it’s not.

Choosing this womans gift should be fun and easy to do! You obviously know this woman, or you wouldn’t be buying her a gift. So, think about her. What kind of work does she do? What activities does she like to do? What colors look best on her? Does she have a hobby, or collection? Is she the outdoor type, active, or likes to read? Love animals? What kind of music does she listen to? Is she leather or lace? Diva or down to earth gal? Just by asking yourself these questions, some ideas should pop up. Write them down now. Write down everything that comes to mind pertaining to her, and together we will discover what are the best gifts for women after forty.

Decide on Your Budget – Gifts Under or Over $100

I know most of us are on a budget, but if not, just head over to Tiffany’s! You can’t go wrong there. In this case, it’s not the gift, but the little blue box that counts. We all love that little blue box for some reason! I painted an entire wall Tiffany blue. Love it! But seriously, if you shop at Tiffany, you will have pleased her.

Whatever your budget is, there is the perfect gift for her. There are plenty of sales happening all over the world right now, so there are plenty of gifts to be found for under or over $100, with huge savings for you!

Jewelry is always a good option, but it should be genuine stones set in silver, gold, or platinum. It doesn’t need to be big, or sparkle a lot, but women after forty do like quality! Again, think about her. A charm bracelet might be a good idea. You can pick charms of all those things that she likes, and add them to a bracelet. If she likes butterflies, buy butterfly jewelry. You get the idea…

Besides jewelry, most women like soft, comfy things. A robe, jammies, sweater, how bout a fur coat? A day at the spa is always refreshing, and perfect this time of year. Any type of pampering is love to women after forty. They also cherish the moments, so why not make some memories with a special concert, or a Broadway show? Exotic vacation, or a cozy inn. Now you get it, right?

Gifts Under or Over $50

Women like things that smell nice too. Perfume, flowers, lotions, candles, any aroma therapy will do. The gift of scent doesn’t have to cost a lot, as long as it is in good taste and a scent she loves. The active, outdoorsy woman’s could use some warmth this time of year. Tis the season for thick, fluffy scarves, and hats. Don’t forget the gloves! It’s not just me, we all lose those.

The other things we lose are sunglasses, and cases for our sunglasses. How bout a phone case? Of all the things she likes, you can find a phone case designed with that in mind. Or at least her favorite color. A nice wallet, or handbag. A charming knick-knack, or a nice bottle of wine is greatly appreciated by most women after forty.

When in doubt, just Google it. While thinking about her likes, you can always Google those specifics for gift ideas. For example, she likes hiking. Just google ‘hiking gifts for women over forty’ and see what comes up. You can even get more specific, and type the amount you wish to spend.

Amazon is a great place to shop. What I like most about Amazon, is they will give you several options of what you’re looking for, and the best price. They also show you lots of reviews from customers who already purchased the item.

No Money at All? – No Worries

A gift from the heart can always be created by you. This can be the best gift of all! Turn her favorite pictures into a movie with her favorite song playing in the background. Make her the star of course! Speaking of song, a playlist made by you can say it all and would be cherished by a woman’s after forty.

A painting, a poem, or write your own song. What are your skills? We all have some hidden talent. At the very least, you can make her a card. If it is thoughtful, she will love it.

More is Better – From a Lover

Now that you’ve found the perfect gift, no need to stop there. After forty, women need attention more than before. Simple, kind gestures will do. Dinner at a nice restaurant, or a candle lit dinner at home. Make time to talk, or go for a walk. Help with the shopping, and chores. Fix all those things you said you would.

The holidays are approaching fast, and she might be feeling stressed out. How bout a massage? Do whatever you can to ease the pressure, and hopefully she will do the same for you.

Wrap it Up – and Put a Bow on It

I hope this was helpful, and you found the best gifts for women after forty. It doesn’t need to be difficult. Just thinking of her is enough to get you started. Ask yourself the questions I mentioned earlier, and if you don’t know the answers, just ask.

Ask her, her friends, or family members. Even if they rat you out, she will be flattered that you went through all the trouble. A meaningless gift for a woman’s over forty is a waste of money, and will only hurt, or upset her. So, be careful!

It’s not about the price of the gift, it really is the thought. So, think about it! However, if you’re still coming up empty, give her a gift card. As long as it’s from a store she frequently likes to shop at, you’re still being thoughtful. Just don’t forget the bow!

Yoga Burn Program Overview

Yoga Burn is a progressive yoga program designed exclusively for women (sorry guys), to deliver maximum fat burning results and body shaping effects in the shortest amount of time.

Yoga Burn is a three-phase program that guides you through 15 different videos based on dynamic sequencing, as it continues to adapt and increase the challenge throughout all three phases. The idea is to spend at least four weeks with each phase before you elevate to the next level.

Each phase is more difficult from the previous one, so it really keeps you on your toes. There is no chance of boredom here!

Yoga Burn is created for women from all walks of life who are ready to commit to a yoga program designed to promote natural and healthy weight loss without the need for a strict diet, or pills. There is also no need to go to the gym. This program can be done from the comfort of your own home, on your schedule.

Who is Zoe Bray-Cotton?

Zoe Bray-Cotton

Yoga Burn was created by Zoe Bray-Cotton. Zoe is a certified yoga instructor, certified personal trainer, and female fitness expert. She has taught all major forms and styles of Yoga for over a decade.

Zoe is a very likable instructor with a sweet demeanor, and a perky spirit. She makes the workouts enjoyable by guiding you step-by-step all the way. She’s doing the workouts with you on video, so you can always stop and pause to be sure you’re doing the poses correctly.

TIP: Sometimes I watch the video first, to motivate me into doing the workout.

How it Works – 3 Phases of Yoga Burn

Yoga Burn consists of three phases. Each are designed to prepare and progress you to the next level. Each phase consists of three workouts, so you never get bored or tired of the same, old routine. Also, this keeps you guessing, so you stay in the moment. It is referred to as a “moving meditation that burns calories”.

There are three 15-minute videos. Each are to be completed three times through, for a total of 45 minutes. You will have time for a short water break in between each segment, but be prepared to stay with it for the entire video. Though sometimes, I stop after 30 minutes. It’s up to you. The more you put into it, the greater the results.

· Foundational Flow – This foundation is the key to progressing through the next two phases safely, and effectively. During phase 1, you learn the building blocks that make for all the Yoga Burn exercises. You will start to shape long, lean, muscles while having fun! By the end of this phase, you’ll know how to execute each movement with proper form. Once you feel confident with all the poses (at least 4 weeks), it’s time to move on.

· Transitional Flow – Phase 2 is much like phase 1, only Zoe likes to mix it up, and add a few twists here and there. You will learn how to create seamless transitions from one pose to the next. The Transitional Flow combines all the exercises you’ve learned into a smooth flow that will allow you to burn calories and get your heart rate up. That is why I consider Yoga Burn to be Cardio-Yoga. I also noticed some weight-training movements (without the weight), during these workouts. I had the most fun with phase two! You will want to stay with this one for as long as it takes to prepare you for what’s ahead.

· Mastery Flow – Phase 3 combines all that you’ve learned into a burning hot, yoga sequence. The Mastery Flow will fire up your metabolism and transform your body in ways you never imagined with yoga. The layout is slightly different from the previous videos. There’s more repetition of each pose to really encourage the desired muscle to fatigue. You’ll also be guided through a combination of upper & lower body compound movements. These are designed to get the most done in the shortest amount of time. The goal is to amp up the challenge, so the first couple of weeks may be tough, but each week will get easier, as your body begins to adapt and build muscle in the necessary areas.

Let me just say, Zoe certainly delivers on this challenge. I remember being sore for days, but it was a good pain!

I advise anyone to start with the Beginner’s Flow as a warm up exercise, especially if you’re new to Yoga. It is one of three bonus videos. The others are a Pose Tutorial, and the Tranquility Flow.

The Tranquility Flow is my favorite! It only takes 15 minutes and will relieve any stress or tension you may have built up throughout your day, and leave you feeling relaxed and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Pros – Look and Feel Great

The Pros to this program became obvious after a few, short weeks, as I began to see the results from these workout videos. My clothes were more comfortable, and I didn’t have to feel embarrassed to see old friends, or hold my breath as I sucked in my belly.

I gained flexibility, and my balance greatly improved. My aches and pains were less, and I could bend more easily than before.

I also noticed a shift in my energy, as I became more upbeat, and was able to keep a positive outlook throughout my days. It is impossible to feel depressed after doing any exercise program, but that goes double for these workouts. I truly enjoy them!

Cons – You Will Have to Earn it

I feel obligated to warn you, that Yoga Burn is designed to challenge you. You will experience pains in muscles you didn’t know you even had, and in places you never thought about. For me, that was good because I knew the program was working.

Still, pain is pain. Pain is the only reason I did not rate this program 5 out of 5. If only there was a fat loss program that was fun, and painless. The only way to ease the pain was to power through, and I’m so glad I did! Seems I achieved so much in a short amount of time.

The first two phases weren’t as bad, but watch out for phase three. Just when you think you’re a pro, phase three comes along and kicks your butt!

Guarantee – 100% Refund

Zoe is so confident that you will love her program, she is offering a 60 day no-questions-asked 100% money back guarantee. Just call the toll-free number or email if you are not completely satisfied with this program for whatever reason.

Clickbank also offers the same guarantee on all their products, so you are covered either way.

In Conclusion – Yoga Burn Rocks

It was the greatest feeling to find a program that I not only liked, but also worked, as my belly finally began shrinking. I never had a belly in my life, until I turned 52, so it was shocking to say the least!

I went back to school at fifty, and think it grew from all the sitting I was forced to do while studying. My jean size went from a size 2 to a size 6 within 2 years, then the size 6 started getting tight, and I knew I had to do something. I tried desperately to get rid of it, but nothing was working.

Then one day, I discovered Yoga Burn on a Facebook post, by one of my most trusted friends. She is always joyful, and always looks great, so I had to check it out. Three years later, I am still ever so grateful that I did. Ordering Yoga Burn is the best decision I ever made!

The cost is only $47, and if you choose to order Yoga Burn now, you will be able to download the videos right away. So, you can get started today! ???? Your hard copy will arrive by mail in 7-10 business days with free shipping.

Top 7 Age Defying Products – You May Already Have

Forget the Botox and all the expensive skin care products that make promises to rejuvenate your skin, and make you look years younger. I’ve tried them all, and the truth is nothing will take away wrinkles and make you look twenty again, except Botox. However, if you use Botox, you will have to continue with this course, and it can be costly.

I personally, prefer wrinkles and a natural glow compared to looking plastic. A few wrinkles are nothing to worry about. They don’t make you unattractive, they’re just a part of life.

Around the age of 40, our collagen and elastic tissue have experienced enough damage to really start showing changes in our appearance. However, protecting your skin year-round will greatly reduce the signs of aging. Keeping your skin fresh and healthy is the best way to go, and you can do it yourself for a lot less than you think.

Simple, household items you probably already have can do wonders for your hair, skin, and nails without you having to go to the salon. Not to mention, the cost is nothing compared to most beauty products. I like to keep things simple, so here is my top 7 age defying products that you may already have:

1. Water – Drinking lots of water throughout the day does so much more than keep you hydrated. Those headaches, poor digestion, and the blotchy skin may be the symptoms of not drinking enough water. Hydration is necessary for the removal of waste, the lubrication of joints, the protection of body tissues, and the stabilization of body temperature. You can either drink or eat your water to fill up the cellular tanks. Water is the key to vibrant health and in maintaining strong cells, as long as you don’t over do it.

When your blood gets thick and water-deficient from organs pulling water from it, the blood in turn pulls water from skin cells, according to Dr. Richard Besser, the chief health and medical editor at ABC News. This causes your skin to look dry and your eyes to look darker and sunken. Over time, the condition can age you faster. When your skin is dry, it’s less resilient and elastic, making it prone to wrinkling.

However, drinking enough water will have the opposite effect, and can make your eyes appear clearer, sharper, and definitely brighter. Drinking more water can also take away those dark circles.

By drinking water and hydrating yourself efficiently from the inside will result in fresh looking skin on the outside. You can read more here:  https://www.livestrong.com/article/495609-advantages-of-drinking-water-and-skin-benefits/

2. Vaseline – Petroleum jelly is one of the best moisturizers money can buy, and it only cost a few cents. Generic brands work just as well, but it is important to make sure they are reputable generic brands. Dermatologist like Vaseline because the allergy risk is low, and it’s more effective at treating and preventing dry skin than creams and lotions. Do no use petroleum jelly if you are prone to acne, this would not be a good choice.

Most of the women in my family have been using Vaseline petroleum jelly for decades, and you can really see the difference in the ones who don’t. I have Aunts who are well into their 70s, and I can always tell the ones who use Vaseline. Their face is so bright and perky, you don’t really notice any lines or wrinkles. All you see is soft, glowing skin.

Vaseline is a must for dry, chapped lips! Apply everyday and every night to keep your lips moist, soft, and kissable forever.

3. Coconut Oil – Not just for cooking. Coconut oil has so many benefits to slow the aging process, and cooking with it is certainly one of them. I have used it for many things over the years, including helping my cat grow his fur back. He gets a little over-aggressive with his scratching post. My vet suggested rubbing Coconut oil on the bald spots, and it worked!

Seriously, it is the best lotion for dry skin, and moisturizer for dry hair and scalp. Great for the cuticle area of your nails, and even helps with dental care. So basically, Coconut oil can be used for cooking, hair, skin, pets, teeth, and gums, just to name a few. However, it has even more benefits for our health than it does for beauty. I cannot even begin to list all the benefits of Coconut oil here, but if you would like to learn more, this book is a good read: The Coconut Oil Miracle

4. Yoga – Any, and all yoga is good for you. Yoga helps you to gain flexibility, tone your body, and promotes better sleep. Getting proper rest is the best defense against age. People sleep less as they get older, but that shows in their appearance. Besides feeling tired all the time, the eyes are puffy, have dark circles, and the face hangs low. We’re fighting gravity after forty, and yoga provides us with the stamina we need, while offering a relaxing, meditative state as well. It really depends on the style of yoga. Some poses are designed to create energy, while other poses are made to relax and de-stress you. This is why I love Yoga Burn!

Zoe Bray-Cotton

Yoga Burn is made for women (sorry guys), and created by Zoe Bray-Cotton. She truly delivers a workout that is designed to tighten and tone the body. It is a quick pace for a yoga practice, and it also includes cardio and weight-training exercises throughout. After forty, it is important to include all three practices to your routine. We’re looking at longevity now. If you want to continue to live an active lifestyle, I’m afraid you have to earn it. On the upside, you will look and feel great, so it’s definitely worth it!

It is only $47 and you can download it right away and use the beginner course today. Your hard copy will arrive by mail shortly after. I strongly advise anyone to start with the Beginner course. This sets the tone for the higher levels you can achieve. There are three phases you can progress to, and each has three different workout sessions, so you will never get tired of the same old routine. There is a Foundational Flow, then Transitional Flow, and last is, the Mastery Flow. I also advise you to go at your own pace. It’s not a race, and can be painful if you do too much at once.  The idea is to spend one month with each phase. I remember being sore for days in the beginning of each phase, but that’s how you know it’s working!

My favorite bonus video is the Tranquility Flow. It only takes 15 minutes and will relieve any stress or tension you may have built up throughout your day, and leave you feeling relaxed and ready for a good nights sleep.

5. Tea Bags – Prevent puffy eyes. Keep two in the fridge sealed in a plastic bag. After I shower, I place them in the freezer for about 5 minutes. Then play some meditation music, and lay down. Place the cold tea bags over your eyes and just relax for 5-10 minutes. This is so refreshing! The tea is not what keeps your eyes from puffing up, but the coldness does. Cucumbers are also helpful, but tea bags work best for me.

6. Meditation – Sitting still and quieting the mind is not as easy as it sounds. It is challenging for most of us. I’m still working on this, but turning off the phone, television, music, and computer does bring me a sense of peace and comfort. Almost like entering a strange, new land that time forgot about. It is rewarding, but like most new activities, the more you try it, the better it gets.

7. Ors Olive Oil Sheen Nourishing Spray or lotion – Really keeps hair soft, strong, and full of body. I spray this on my hair the night before I plan to wash it. I spray it from roots to the end of my hair, and then brush to make sure it is evenly distributed. The next morning, I wash and go. Love it! My hair stylist always comments on how healthy my hair is. I don’t share this secret with her, because I like to keep her guessing.

Women Getting Fit After Forty

It’s true! Women are getting fit after forty despite the odds being thrown against them. Most women begin peri-menopause in their forties, some in their thirties. This is when we lose muscle mass, our metabolism slows down, and our weight  starts shifting, usually to the belly area.

It didn’t catch up to me until I was 52. Maybe because I’m a small frame, or because my job kept me active. However, after going back to school at the age of fifty, I was spending all my free time in front of a computer studying, and the inches slowly began adding on. I went from a size zero to a four within two years, and it was all belly fat! When my size 4 jeans were getting tight, I knew I had to do something.

Now, I have been researching this subject for the past three years, and for me, it all came down to lack of exercise and I eat too many sweets. I also believe the stress from working 2-3 jobs while going to school was a major factor. My greatest advice for women after forty is to eleviate stress as much as possible. It can actually kill you if you don’t. Stress is the reason for so many illnesses, as it weakens your immune system, and makes you susceptible to so many illnesses and chronic diseases such as cancers, and heart failures.

On the bright side, just look at all the female celebrities’ over forty who can still strut their flat bellies, and six-pack abs while wearing a bikini. They have to work for it, same as we do. They have to make time for exercise and eat foods thats serve them best. Most celebrities’ workout two hours a day, so they earn those beautiful bods and so can you! They have raised the bar, but seeing is believing, and now, women everywhere are getting fit after forty.

How it Works – It’s Just Science

Most likely, you already know that the human body is miraculous, as it continuously works 24/7 for us. Even when we get a cold, the body is fighting the virus from the inside as we help by adding nutrients, medicines, and getting as much rest as possible. When it comes to losing weight, or belly fat, we also need to help it along. Our metabolism turns the food we eat into energy, and the right exercise uses the energy to add muscle, or it just gets stored as fat. I don’t count calories, but it makes sense to exercise before eating, then eat foods high in nutrients to keep the energy burning in the right places. The energy (foods) we bring into our bodies, must be released through energy (exercise).

Getting fit after forty is simply diet and exercise. Two words that I was not familiar with until I was in my 50s. I always enjoyed having an active lifestyle, and eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. I thought I was one of the lucky ones and would never have to use the “D” word, as in ‘diet’. I don’t have much faith in diets of any kind because I cannot stick to a regular schedule for meals, and I don’t like being restricted to what I can eat. I did give up eating meat from animals at the age of 45 because of my love for animals, and nothing to do with my weight. Luckily, that also made menopause more bearable without the added hormones from eating animals.

Foods You Want to Eat

I want to keep this simple as possible for you. I had to take a Nutrition course as part of my degree requirements a couple years ago, and my brain was over loaded with important information I felt I should have already known. My head hurt a lot, but it was useful knowing how eating the right foods can do wonders for your physical and mental health.

What it all comes down to is macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients you want to eat a lot of. These nutrients consist of Protein, Carbohydrates, and Fats. They provide the body with energy, so you want to eat large amounts of them (macro). While micronutrients are vitamins, minerals, and water, which the body needs less of (micro).

Proteins make up enzymes that regulate metabolism amongst other things such as tissue structure, and acid/ base balance. Food sources include:

  • Legumes (beans)
  • Lentil
  • Soy products (tofu)
  • Nuts
  • Whole grains
  • Vegetables (some)
  • Seeds
  • Animal sources

Carbohydrates are fuel for the brain and during high intensity workouts, as well as spares protein to preserve muscle mass during exercise. These food sources  picture of nutrtious foodsinclude:

  • Whole grains
  • Dairy
  • Fruit

Fats reserve energy, protects vital organs, and transports fat soluble vitamins. Food sources are:

  • Oils
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Fish, meat, dairy
  • Micronutrients

The 7 vitamins and minerals (micronutrients) that are most important to us after forty are:

  • B12 – essential for normal blood and brain functions. B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, so it is okay to take as a supplement. Food sources are chicken, fish, dairy, and eggs.
  • Calcium – if you’re not getting enough calcium from your diet, the body steals it from your bones and weakens them even more. Calcium rich foods consist of dairy, tofu, sardines, broccoli, almonds, and spinach.
  • Vitamin D – plays a major role in protecting us from age-related changes. Can be found in fish, grains, fortified dairy, and cereals, but the sun is the best form of vitamin D, as it is poorly absorbed from food sources.
  • Magnesium – helps to regulate blood pressure. Can be found in leafy greens, beans, soy, nuts, seeds, and avocados.
  • Potassium – keeps blood pressure in check. Food sources are bananas, sweet potatoes, chard, beans, and lentils.
  • Omega 3’s – helps lower blood pressure, reduces the risk of heart disease, and keeps memory and thinking sharp. You can get omega 3’s from foods such as fish, walnuts, flax seeds, and leafy vegetables.

Whole food sources are better than supplements because they are easier for the body to absorb. You may also want to be careful of supplements as some micronutrients can be harmful in large doses, such as calcium for example. Always check with your doctor before taking any supplements, especially if you are already taking medications. You can learn more here: https://www.prevention.com/hea…

Foods You Want to Avoid Eating

  • Margarine – is a transfat. Always avoid transfat. It hydrates your skin.
  • Sodas or Colas – whatever you call them. Those cans of fizz are the worst thing you can put into your body!
  • Sweet coffee drinks or Energy Drinks – All the caffeine and sugar will cost you some important beauty rest, dehydrate you, and harm the enamel of your teeth.
  • Microwave dinners or Canned Veggies – can make you puffy due to being loaded with sodium, which makes you retain water.
  • Cookies, candies, all those sweets – they’re just empty calories with no nutritional value. Plus, they are loaded with transfat and sugars.
  • Breakfast meats or processed meats – the consumption of processed meats are connected to several cancers. Preservatives used in processed meats create free radicals within the body.
  • Sugar/ High Fructose Corn Syrup – causes inflammation, accelerates wrinkling and sagging, and also damages collagen and elastin which we really need after forty.
  • Chips or Unhealthy Snacks – wasted calories again, but also loaded with additives such as MSG.
  • Alcohol – high in sugar and robs the body of vitamin A, which is essential for cell renewal. You especially want to avoid sweet cocktails. Always drink in moderation and choose drinks without added sugars such as wine, champagne, or vodka & soda. Also, good advice to have one glass of water with each drink.
  • Fast Food – excess calories, fat, and sodium.

Let’s face it, with all the media we have access to, every day you probably hear about some foods to avoid. One day it’s eggs, the next day it’s bananas. Just use good judgment and focus on the foods you know you should be eating.

Exercise Programs – Do What Makes You Happy

Stress and all the negative forces in our bodies need to be released and exercise is a surefire way to do that, along with eating the right foods, meditation, and sleeping regularly. This is where we can really get screwed by Mother Nature, as most women find it hard to sleep during menopause. Please don’t worry, that only creates more stress. Just breathe deeply and read on. There is hope, because exercise also promotes good sleep, improves your mood, keeps you slim, firms you up, and charges up your sex life!

After forty, the only exercises you need to do are cardio, weight-training, and yoga. If you can spend at least thirty minutes a day on each, or at least three times a week, you will stay in good shape. It is important to know that the more you put into this, the greater the results. However, if you’re new to exercising, start out slow, and work your way up. Otherwise, you risk damaging your body, more than helping it. So, take your time, and make sure you are making all the right moves. Maybe start with a personal trainer at your local gym?

Exercise should be fun! You want to appreciate all your body does for you by spending time strengthening your muscles and bones. Find programs you like, to increase the odds of you following through with it. Here are a few examples:

Cardiovascular workouts – Any activity that raises your heart rate. Running, walking, swimming, aerobics, cycling, climbing stairs, jumping rope, rowing, dancing, etc. You get the idea, right? Most of these you don’t need to join a gym, but if you like that idea, you will be offered even more to choose from.

Weight Training – By adding weight-training to your routine, you will lose more fat than cardio alone. Weight training will change the shape of your body, increase strength, boost your metabolism, build stronger bones, and improve joint stability. This can also be done from home by doing push-ups. Push-ups are great for the upper body as you use all the muscles from your chest, shoulders, and triceps. In addition, push-ups also target your core muscles (belly). The Plank is one of the most effective exercises you can do safely from home to tone the abdominal area. Having a strong core will also reduce backaches and improve your posture. Squats are one of the best full body exercises you can do. Especially if using weighted dumbells over head while doing them. Here are some links if you like to discover more:

Yoga – So many variations of yoga, I can’t even begin to explain. However, it is my favorite form of exercise to date. Like all exercise programs, you want to start out slow. I actually used Yoga for Dummies DVD in the beginning. Then I took some classes at a studio, did beach yoga one summer, then yoga from home using another DVD. That was all good, except it was low impact, and never felt like a workout. I did enjoy hot yoga for a while. This is where you do one hour yoga sessions in a 140 degree heated room. Felt more like a workout because I sweat a lot. Then I got lucky once again and stumbled upon my latest yoga program. Yoga Burn!

Yoga Burn is a high impact yoga program that involves cardio and weight  training. What I like most about this program is I can do it from home, I get the full workout experience, and all I need is a yoga mat!

I know this works because I sweat a lot without being in a heated room, and my clothes look much better on me than before. I also have better balance, flexibility, energy, and my aches and pains are much less.

Benefits of Getting Fit After Forty

Make no mistake. After the age of forty, women lose muscle mass, our metabolism slows down, and our weight shifts to our bellies and beyond unless we take control and get fit after forty, if not sooner. We know what to eat, and what to avoid eating. Eating lots of nutritionally dense foods is far better than counting calories. Lowering your calorie intake only slows down your metabolism. You are better off eating 5-6 small servings of nutritious meals than 3 large servings. When you have a steady supply of food for the body, it will boost your metabolism and burn off more fat.

Exercise at least thirty minutes a day using cardio, weight-training, and yoga, or try Yoga Burn at least three times a week. This will improve your mood, strengthen and tone your body, speed up your metabolism, gain flexibility, and charge up your sex life. It doesn’t need to be complicated.

I just adopted a healthier course of menu, bought a yoga DVD and a mat, and I at least practice meditation. Women are getting fit after forty, hope this includes you!

Fall Hair Styles – Women Over Forty

Photo by David Cohen on Unsplash

Seasons change, and this can really take a toll on our hair. During the summer, I can pretty much wash and go, but when Fall comes around, the process is a bit more challenging. The Fall elements can be rough on our hair due to the mixture of humidity, heat, and cold.

The texture of your hair depends on the hair’s cuticle layer. All hair has this protective outer layer that is almost scale-like. If the scales are flat, the hair feels smooth. When scales are raised, the texture is rough. Some other factors for dryness are chemical treatments, heated tools, and lack of moisture. No worries though. This can all be fixed with the right hair products and drinking lots of water.

After forty, is when I began to change hairstyles with the seasons. Not only does this keep things fresh and new, but it’s also my way of embracing the change in weather. I love the warmth of summer, and all the festivities that come with that. The beach, the pool, the festivals, and backyard barbecues, just to name a few. It has always been my favorite time of year!

I do like all the seasons, but I seemed to get depressed every year when Autumn came about. Truth is, I still do, until I get a new hairstyle, that is. A great hair cut can not only change how you look, but also change your perspective. Fall hair styles for women over forty are fun, flirty, and loaded with layers.

Layers, Layers, and More Layers

I’ve never been one to fuss with my hair a lot. During my youthful days, I would cut it once and for the next 3 or 4 months, just let it grow. Sick it in a pony tail or tie it in a bun, and always ready to have some fun! After forty, is when I decided to play with style. I cut it short, and added some layers for a new-look. What I didn’t expect, was the new outlook that came with it!

My whole appearance was transformed for the better, and I looked about ten years younger. Was very exciting! Cutting off all those dead ends brought new life to my hair and face. Softer, healthier feel, and so much easier to manage, made me feel like a new person all together. What makes it so manageable are those layers! I never cared for them in my twenties or thirties. I just wore my hair long and straight, so you can imagine my surprise to find the layers brought new life to not only my hair, but my perspective as well.

I always thought that having layers meant I would have to blow dry and style my hair for hours on a regular basis in order for it to look good. After forty, the opposite is true. Our hair texture changes as we get older, but that doesn’t need to be a bad thing. It’s tougher now, but I use a lot of conditioner and wash it less. This helps keep it soft, and the layers give it a boost. My hair actually got curlier as I aged, and the layers just enhance those curly locks. Now I am all about shorter hair with layers during the Fall and Winter months for a few reasons:

  • Keeps it from going flat, or having hat head.
  • Easier to manage. Just a quick blow dry with hair upside down, then just flip upwards and you have body, bounce and style.
  • Frames the facial features you want to accentuate.
  • Long layers work best for me. I can shorten the length, but keep the layers long.
  • Shorter hair is easier to wear with sweaters, scarfs, and coats. So I like layers with my layers.

Blow Drying Tips

You want to be careful with your just washed hair, and gently squeeze water out with a towel, as scrubbing and rubbing can be damaging to the hair. Then you can air dry or wrap the towel loosely around your head to absorb any excess moisture, while you get ready. More tips:

  • For dry hair, add a small amount of leave-in conditioner to seal the cuticle layer and add moisture before wrapping in a towel.
  • Prep your hair before you turn that blow-dryer on by adding a primer for quicker drying time, and will also protect your hair from the heat. I like Redkin Pillow Proof, but there are several to choose from. Just ask your stylist which is best for you if you’re feeling unsure.
  • Start with a quick, rough dry by just using your fingers to lift the hair away from the scalp while pointing the blow-dryer at the roots.
  • Create volume by lifting hair to opposite sides and continue to blow dry from the roots only. Then flip to the other side and repeat. You can still just use your fingers for lifting, tousling, and scrunching.
  • For a more controlled style, just section the hair off with a clip and blow dry hair with a brush from scalp to ends, while lifting hair up.
  • For faster drying time, use an iconic dryer and brush, rather than ceramic or tourmaline. Iconic dryers emit negative ions that break down water, and create smoother, sleeker hair with no static.
  • For straight hair, always use the concentrator attachment and always direct the heated air downward on the hair strands to prevent frizz.
  • For curly hair, use the diffuser and gently scrunch curls to prevent frizz.

Darker, Richer Color

Now that you’ve found the right cut, you might want to take it to the next level and really sport a fun, new-look by adding some color. Fall is the perfect time of year to play with darker, warmer, shades. However, I wouldn’t do any drastic changes with color. I just go a shade or two darker. Preferably, one shade darker at a time, or add a touch of red to the color you already have. Reddish brown for brunettes or strawberry blonde for lighter hair shades. Maybe even a nice auburn color for Fall?

Just remember, dark colors like red or black are hard to remove. If you go too dark of a shade, bleach is the only way to remove it. That is why I say, nothing too drastic with color. But as our tan begins to fade, we can still brighten our appearance by adding some color to our hair. Blondes can always add some low lights with darker hues, and dark hair colors look great with added highlights this time of year. I just go from medium reddish brown to a dark reddish brown.

My Favorite Hair Product

My number one secret to keeping hair, soft, shiny, and smooth is Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Sheen Spray by ORS. I love olive oil for so many reasons, but nothing else compares when it comes to nourishing my hair!

I use coconut oil right from the jar on my face and body as a moisturizer, but for my hair, I prefer Ors Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil in a spray can. It really depends on the texture of your hair, but there have lotions, oils, and sprays made with olive oil and specifically designed for hair. The spray is lighter, which works for me. The others are heavier and would be best for extremely course, dry, hair. So, if your hair is really thirsty, the oil might be the way to go.

I just spray it directly onto the roots and hair before bedtime, and brush my hair thoroughly to make sure it is evenly distributed. The next day, I just wash and go! My hair is soft, shiny, and still has lots of body even though I color it regularly, like every three weeks. This can be damaging because of all the chemicals, and that is why I take precautions anyway I can. Try it!

Wrap it Up

I hope reading this has helped you in some way. Fall style for women after forty is all about the hair! Get rid of those dry ends with the right haircut. Add some volume by adding layers. Find the right products to keep your hair smooth, shiny, and frizz free. Play with colors by going a shade darker, and lift your spirits in time for the holidays!

Life After Forty – New Beginning For Women

As women, we are programmed to dread turning forty. I believe it has something to do with our biological clock ticking away inside of us, which might also explain why men are still playful at this age and unaffected by time until they hit 60! I know a few women who decided to have a baby at forty. We will do anything to keep us feeling young, but having a baby does not exactly guarantee this. In fact, it may have the opposite effect. Still, it’s a turning point, and life after forty for women is a time for new beginnings.

Think about it. We spent our twenties exploring new possibilities with fascination and endless energy. Our thirties were filled with uncertainty in just about every area of life. We made choices that we now live with. Whether they were good or bad, doesn’t matter as long as we can accept that we made those decisions and own up to them. At least we can say we’ve been there, done that! So now, we know what works and what doesn’t and have a much clearer understanding of our likes and dislikes. Unfortunately, we can’t just hit the rewind button and get a do-over, but we can make changes and in a way, it’s like starting over.

Renew Yourself

Like I mentioned earlier, we now know more of what we like and don’t like. The key is to focus on what we like, what accomplishes we made, what went right and continue to explore those ideas! Appreciate the good times and focus on creating more of those, while leaving all your regrets behind you. They are in the past, and have no purpose here and now. Truth is, what we think about, we bring about. So keep your thoughts positive and be clear about what you want while taking steps every day towards achieving your goal or goals.

If you should find yourself thinking about what you dislike, that’s fine too. Use these thoughts to discover what needs to change. Whatever makes you feel sad or unhappy needs to go! Life is too short to live with regrets. Life after forty can be empowering as long as you hold onto the belief that you can renew yourself and re-create the life you always wanted. It’s not too late. It’s never too late. We no longer have to live with our mistakes, because we can change them. We can change our minds and adopt a healthy attitude that serves us as easily as we can change our clothes or hair style.

Finding Your Style

Change is going to happen, that you can be sure of. Nothing stays the same, and that’s actually a good thing. How boring would life be without changes? The key is to make those changes yourself, as much as possible. Otherwise, change will just happen to you, and you might not like it all!

I’ve always enjoyed make overs. Whether it be myself, or other people. I like to see how different styles can have a dramatic effect in one’s appearance and attitude. Especially when they find the right style that aligns with their personality. It really can make all the difference, but for a woman, it is an essential part of life after forty. Your body has changed, your hair structure, your skin, even your teeth have changed. Now it’s time to roll with the changes!

I like to start from the top and work my way down. So I begin with the hair, especially since I no longer have time to fuss with it. Getting the right cut that shapes your face, while getting rid of those dead ends is the greatest gift a girl can give herself. However, it is crucial that you don’t rush the process and risk having bad hair days until it grows out and you can start all over again. Take your time with this and get it right. You will be so happy to wake up knowing you can be ready in minutes, without all the fuss! Here are some keys to finding the perfect cut:

  • Know the shape of your face. You might be round, oval, or heart shaped.
  • Find celebrities that have the same shape, and features as you have. Don’t kid yourself though. Be truthful or maybe ask a friend or family member for a reality check.
  • Look through magazines or the internet and find styles your chosen celebrity has already tried, and choose the one you like best. Celebrities change thier hair styles often, so you should have a nice selection.
  • Use a stylist that you can trust. Your hair stylist should be considered your friend. If you don’t already have one that you are comfortable with, seek one out. Ask for referrals from friends or co-workers that have great hair. Who do they use?
  • Bring a picture. It’s hard to describe what you want done, and can easily be misinterpreted. It has happened to me a lot! Having a picture of the style you want says it all and eliminates all the confusion.
  • Be nice! Ask for his or her professional opinion and let them feel they are trusted and most importantly, appreciated. We all do our best work when we feel appreciated.

Stay True to Yourself

It is true that beauty comes from within. Thanks to my Grandma, I have always known this to be true since I was a young teen. She would tell me it doesn’t matter how much make-up you apply. “If you’re ugly on the inside, that is all people will see.” Somehow, she knew I stole the make-up, and the lesson was clear that stealing would make me ugly, so I stopped! I am proud to say, there is nothing I want badly enough that I would steal to get it. Nothing!

On the upside, you can be beautiful without even wearing make-up, if you choose. Being pure in your thoughts and in your heart, shines a light through you that people can’t help but notice and will automatically be drawn to you in a respectful manner. A simple act of kindness, or even a smile can go a long way. The more you can achieve this, the better you will feel and look! We all look better with a smile. It is the number one anti-aging ingredient for both men and women.

Fitness is Key

Fitness is Key

That being said, the best way to combat negative forces and keep our focus on healthy, positive, actions is to exercise. This doesn’t need to be a chore, though most of us do feel this way. Just thirty minutes a day, or at least three times a week, can change your outlook, as well as your appearance for the better. I promise! It is impossible to feel depressed after a work-out. There are so many ways you can get the excercise you need, and in time, you will find it enjoyable. Especially when you begin seeing results. It’s all about finding the right program for you. Doing something you enjoy, makes it more likely for you to follow through and stick with it. Here are a few ideas:

  • Dancing. Take classes with your partner or alone in your living room. Who cares! If you enjoy dancing, then dance thirty minutes a day.
  • Yoga. This is my number one pick. I love it, though it was tough in the beginning. I was sore, but it still felt great because I knew it was working. Now I am so grateful I didn’t give up. I am much more flexible, and my aches and pains are less. I can bend more easily and feel less stressed about everything. Yoga can be done from home, in the morning, in the evening, at the gym, or even a yoga studio. Love it!
  • Pilates. A core workout using a fast paced series of movements. I tried this once or twice and just wasn’t for me. However, I may try again someday. I do like the concept. Benefits are stronger, more sculpted muscles and gain flexibility.
  • Aerobics. A cardiovascular workout with lots of movement. Usually set to music, with the goal of improving all elements of fitness.
  • Sports. Swimming is another favorite of mine. So refreshing, and you’re actually using all your muscles while swimming. Volleyball, tennis, softball, basketball, the list goes on. Any sport you like is also a great work-out while having fun.
  • Remember to always check with your doctor before starting any new exercise program.

I only mentioned a few, but there are plenty more. Think about what you like and be realistic of what you can do. Research. Make it your mission to find an excercise program that you will enjoy. Like most chores, the hardest part is getting started. I used to trick myself in order to get started. I would tell myself, “Just do ten minutes.” Once started, I would easily go the full 30 minutes. So, be like Nike, and “Just Do It!”

Pampering is a Must

You owe it to yourself to take at least one day out of the week for pampering. No matter how hectic work has been, or whatever has you feeling stressed out, can all subside for a few hours one day a week, as you spend some time taking good care of you! Whether it’s a massage, a facial, doing your nails, getting your face waxed, or all of the above. It is essential to have at least one day of beauty to guarantee one beautiful day a week! You’ve earned it.

What it All Comes Down To

I hope these words of advice has opened you up to a new beginning for your life after forty and you will come back often. I would like to be of help in any way I can. Looking back, I can now see how young 40 really is. I am currently 55, so I do know a thing or two on this subject and I wouldn’t lie to you. Besides being the new twenty, by taking good care, and appreciating all you have been through, you will continue to be young for many more years to come. With or without children.

It’s all up to you. Life after forty is a new beginning. We have the power to change what we don’t like and appreciate more of what we do like. We can change our thoughts as easily as we can change our hair style, clothes and fitness routine. Life is all about the choices we make, and life after forty is about making better decisions and taking action to create the life we want to live! We’ve been through the trial and error ages, so hopefully, now it will all start to make sense. I still believe there is a reason for everything. Maybe you’re the reason I’m writing this now?

We are older, but with age comes wisdom. I just want to share some of mine with you. If you have any questions, or have something you would like to share, please feel free to do so. You can leave a comment in the box below.

I remember hitting the panic button at forty, and now I find it funny. There really is nothing to panic about! The menfolk got this one right, and we should follow their example, and just play like we did yesterday!

Is Your Closet Autumn Ready?

This weekend will probably be our last warm days here in Chicago. Today we reached 79 degrees with sunshine as a bonus! I know, we’re late, but that’s okay. We don’t mind except….

When do we start to switch out our clothes from Summer to Autumn? This ever-changing weather we are having is making this a bit difficult. Warm one day, and cold the next. So, I decided to do this is spurts. I start with items I know I won’t be needing til next year. For me, this was swim suits. The pool actually stayed open late this year, but as soon as it closed I put them away and filled the drawer with scarfs, hats and gloves. Next I put away all the bright colored clothes and left the darker ones for the warm Fall nights. I put away the shorts, but saved a couple pairs just in case. I brought out sweaters that range from light to medium warmth, and those corduroy pants. Can save those big, chunky sweaters for Winter.

Having a flexible wardrobe to choose from is so helpful when ‘getting ready’ to start my day. I don’t have time to search for items I need now! And I really don’t like starting my day frantically looking for things, it’s enough just to find my phone and keys.
